How verification works
A badge on this site is only worth something if it is precise about what was checked. Here is exactly what each one means — and, just as importantly, what it does not.
Listed
Someone has given us their details and agreed to be listed.
What we checked
- They asked to be listed
- They consented to us publishing their details
What we did not
- We have not met them
- We have not confirmed the number belongs to them
- We have not seen their work
Verified
We have met this person in Hout Bay and reached them on the number listed.
What we checked
- Met face to face by someone from this project
- Called on the number published here, and they answered
- Confirmed the trades and areas on their listing are what they actually do
What we did not
- We are not a licensing body — we do not certify skill
- We do not run criminal or credit checks
- We do not check trade qualifications or COC certificates
Verified & vouched
Everything above, plus references from residents who have actually hired them.
What we checked
- Everything in Verified
- At least two independent references from people who paid for the work
- We contacted each reference ourselves
What we did not
- References describe past jobs, not a guarantee of the next one
- Still no qualification or licensing check
If something goes wrong
We are a directory, not an agency. We are not party to the work, we take no commission, and we cannot make anyone finish a job or refund you.
What we can do is act on what we hear. Tell us and we will look into it — a credible, corroborated complaint gets a listing suspended while we do, and removed if it stands up. That is the only enforcement we have, and we use it.
