Hout Bay Harbour
A working fishing harbour, not a marina. Trawlers, seals on the slipway, and fish and chips eaten off paper.
A weekend market in a converted fish factory by the harbour. Food, makers, live music, and most of the valley.
Bay Harbour Market took over an old fish factory next to the harbour and turned it into the social centre of Hout Bay's weekend. Corrugated iron, string lights, long shared tables, a stage at one end.
The food is the draw — dozens of small kitchens, most of them owner-run — but the makers' stalls are worth the walk and the live music runs most evenings it is open.
It gets full. Arrive early for a table, or late and accept that you will be standing. Bring cash as backup even though most stalls take cards.

A long, flat crescent of white sand with the Sentinel at one end and Chapman's Peak at the other. The valley's living room.
Guided rides along Hout Bay Beach and into the dunes, run by local stables in the valley.
