Hout Bay Harbour

A working fishing harbour, not a marina. Trawlers, seals on the slipway, and fish and chips eaten off paper.

Hout Bay's harbour still works for a living. Snoek and tuna boats come in and offload, the fish market operates off the quay, and seals haul out wherever they please, including directly in your path.

Walk out along the wall for the view back at the village with the mountains behind it. The seal on the slipway is not a tourist attraction and should be given room.

The harbour is also where the boat trips leave from, and where you find the least pretentious and best-value seafood in the valley.
